Good Life Saturdays: Portuguese Dining and Hospitality

We used have lovely Portuguese neighbours who treated us like family. The wife was always popping over with home made bread and Portuguese sausages (which were devoured in a matter of minutes). When we went over there for a meal, the food was mouth-wateringly delicious, washed down with the husband’s delicious home-made red wine. So when I spotted a Portuguese restaurant called Chefe Daniel last week, I knew we had to try it – and we weren’t disappointed!

We were shown to a little table in a corner by the window

And our server, a lovely Portuguese gentleman, showed us the menu and wine list. We ordered 1/2 a litre of Portuguese house red wine – it was very delicious. Hubby is not keen on red wine, but he liked this one.

We ordered Cogumelos au Gratin (Mushroom Gratin finished with Port Wine) to share as a starter. Amazing flavours with a little bit of a crunch to it from the parmesan cheese grated over the top.

Next, we both had steak – hubby ordered the special – 14 oz steak with proscuitto. I ordered Bife à Portuguesa (New York Steak, Prosciutto with Garlic Wine Sauce) served with al dente vegetables. The steaks were cooked to perfection and we ate in silence to the strains of soothing Portuguese music.

For dessert we ordered a baked custard dish with an amazing sauce.

Our server was very attentive and friendly, topping up our water glasses and chatting with us occasionally. Halfway through dessert we received a visit from the Chef himself!

All in all, it was a wonderful evening for under $150! We will definitely be back.

Until next week …
