Cup Art – Cute Owls Painted on Dollar Store Cups

Hi everyone. It’s Wednesday!! Some weeks ago, this photo came up on my Facebook page

owl coffee cups

And I fell in love ♥♥♥

I knew I had to try and paint something similar. So yesterday I bought 2 cups from the Dollar Store, and some paint from Michael’s.

and settled down to an afternoon of painting. It’s been a few years since I painted anything on anything, so I’m a little rusty.

First of all, I drew the two owl pictures on paper.

And then, using carbon paper and a pencil, I traced the owl onto the cup and went over it with a black marker

And then, using a thin paint brush with a pointed tip, I painted over the tracing

They’re nowhere close to the original, but they’re still cute 🙂

Once they were painted, I baked them in the oven at 350 deg. C for 30 minutes and then turned off the oven and left the cups in there for several hours. This ensures that the paint bakes onto the cup and it can be washed without taking off the paint.

A nice little project to wile away a couple of hours on a rainy (or in my case, snowy) day. Total cost – approximately $5.00 for both cups.

If you have similar craft projects, I would LOVE to see them.
