A Day Off: A Good Book, A Good Movie, A Good Dinner

Hello everyone! Welcome to the first day of Spring! It’s zero deg. C here – somebody really should get Mother Nature up to speed!

Soooo, we were going to go to Lighthouse Park on Saturday, but it started hailing which turned to rain, so I filed that outing away for a more weather-friendly day. Instead, I decided to do something completely luxurious to me – relax. Read a book, watch a movie and go out for a bite to eat. Heaven!

I hardly ever get to read except for a few minutes when I go to bed. Then I read 4 lines and fall asleep! The next night, I read the same 4 lines … and so on. So on Saturday, I curled up on my bed and finished this book, which I’ve been trying to do for … well … forever.

Helens of Troy

I loved this book! It’s the first in a series and I can’t wait to read the next one. You can read the summary here and buy your copy here.

By this time, I was feeling very relaxed and it was still only mid-afternoon, so I decided on a chick flick! I chose Collateral Beauty. This movie has a whole bunch of actors that I love – Will Smith, Kate Winslet, Helen Mirren, Kiera Knightly and so on. It’s a feel-good movie with a surprising (in a good way) ending.

Chewie came along for the popcorn!

As luck would have it, my family decided on take out for their supper, so Hubby and I took ourselves off to Barcelos (the restaurant down the road from us, not the city in Portuga – although that would be nicel!) for peri-peri chicken and a lovely glass (or two) of red Portuguese wine.

It was a perfect end to a perfect afternoon. I really should do that more often!

Make some time for an afternoon (or day) of indulgence for yourself.
