Hi Guys. Happy New Year! I hope you all had a good holiday and are all getting back to normal. I’m sure glad we are. I love the holidays, but it’s quite exhausting.
We had a very chocolate Christmas. I picked up some ideas from Jamie Oliver and made this lovely, lacy chocolate
It was so easy to do and it would be something fun to do with the kids also.
Mix brown sugar with various kinds of food flavouring – I added caramel and orange to mine
and then let it dry out a bit
Once it’s dry, sprinkle it on a long sheet of wax paper. I taped mine to an outside table
Then, melt your chocolate over a double-boiler. I don’t have a double-boiler, so I placed a metal bowl over boiling water.
Looks delicious, yes?
Now comes the fun part. Take your wooden spoon and drizzle it all over the sugar you’ve sprinkled on the wax paper.
Until it looks like this
Then, leave it in a safe place to set. I put mine outside on our porch – but you can put yours in the garage or somewhere cool where it won’t get disturbed. Once it’s dry, break it into pieces and eat!
On Christmas morning, our breakfast consisted of a giant waffle, baked over a fire outside, and thick, decadent hot chocolate (to which we’d added Bailey’s!) that we dipped the waffles into. For the hot chocolate recipe, click here.
Instead of wine for dinner, I decided to make mulled wine – something hubby has never had (horrors!)
There was just a two of us this year, so we decided on cornish hens instead of a turkey
Cheers for now!
